Burnaby Endodontics is the practice of Dr. Robert MacDonald, a certified Endodontist specializing in root canals located in Burnaby, British Columbia. Our office uses the most advanced equipment including digital xrays, and a surgical microscope. We perform routine as well as very difficult and complex endodontic treatment, retreatment and surgery. We are also experienced in finding the cause of oral and facial pain that has been difficult to diagnose.
What is an Endodontist?
Endodontists are dentists who specialize in maintaining teeth through endodontic therapy — procedures, involving the soft inner tissue of the teeth, called the pulp. All dentists are trained in diagnosis and endodontic therapy, however, some teeth can be especially difficult to diagnose and treat. That’s why you may have been referred to an endodontic specialist. In addition to dental school, endodontists receive two to three years of advanced specialty education in the field of Endodontics. They study root canal techniques and procedures in greater depth, for diagnosis and retreatment of more difficult cases. For this reason many dentists choose to refer their patients to endodontists. For more information about endodontics, please refer to www.aae.org (American Association of Endodontics) or www.caendo.org (Canadian Academy of Endodontics).
Why have you been referred to an Endodontist?
Your dentist, after reviewing your x-rays and/or starting the root canal treatment, has decided that your needs would best be met by referring you to an Endodontist due to the complexity of your particular problem.
State of the Art Technology
X-ray procedures are an essential part of quality endodontic therapy. A major emphasis in our office has been to acquire technology which minimizes the already low radiation required. Digital radiography offers up to 80% reduction in radiation compared to traditional film technology, and it is also environmentally friendlier since there are no chemicals and waste products involved. The instant image is a significant advantage in endodontic procedure where treatment progress must be assessed quickly and easily. Patient comfort is greatly enhanced by eliminating film processing time during their endodontic procedure. The resulting images are digital, allowing computer enhancement, enlargement and evaluation, which greatly improve our diagnostic capabilities.
The Surgical Operating Microscope
At Burnaby Endodontics, Dr MacDonald strives to continually elevate his clinical standards, utilizing microscope-enhanced therapy for conventional and surgical treatment. Utilizing the most advanced techniques along with state-of-the-art technology, you may rest assured that you will receive a very high quality of care. When indicated treatment is delivered under a powerful surgical operating microscope, which allows optimum visualization and illumination of complex root canal anatomy
